What is Micro Blogging?

Microblogging is a web service that allows the subscriber to broadcast short messages to the other subscribers of the service. A popular example of this kind of service would be Twitter.

NWOntario.biz site members can read/post microblog posts online at the web site (must be logged in). NWOntario.biz built this service as a 'community post' to allow members to post relevant information, announcements, notices to the other members of the Northwestern Ontario Site. Ideally posts to the micro blog will be about new content that has been added to the site such as new/changed site page, blog, article, calendar event, forum topic, and/or even additions to the gallery. Public service announcements are also welcome, however please no soliciting, Shill posting (external link), promotional offers, and/or anything that could be considered as Spam (all post are time stamped with the user's name).

Micro Blog Channels - As this site picks up momentum, more and more post will be happening. This possible 'flood' of information has already been planned for by the use of channels. Each area of our site has its own channel, ex: content relevant to 'Thunder Bay' would go to the 'ThunderBay' channel. Not only can the content be filtered by channel, it also can be filtered by user or both user and channel. Check out the 'RSS' section below to see just how easy it is.

Any further questions? please contact the admin or the webmaster.

Access 'community posts' anywhere via RSS

The NWOntario.biz micro-posts are also distributed publicly in real time via RSS (external link). Why RSS? - RSS feeds can be read using software called a 'RSS reader', 'feed reader', or 'aggregator', which can be web-based (Google reader), desktop-based, or using a mobile device. Modern web browsers can handle RSS directly (just enter in the RSS URL). RSS is just about as universal as it gets to send information to as many people via whatever network, system and/or platform. More information on RSS (external link) is available at Wikipedia (external link).

Note: Add http://www.nwontario.biz/RSS/all:username to your Facebook, this will include all your micro-blog posts from this site to your Facebook.

Want to track a NWOntario.biz channel or all posts from a member? It's easier than you think:

http://www.nwontario.biz/RSS/all:all (external link) ( shows posts from all channels and members )

To specify an option such as 'channel' or 'user' use something like:

http://www.nwontario.biz/RSS/channel:all (external link) ( Replace 'channel' with the channel name )
http://www.nwontario.biz/RSS/all:username (external link) (Replace 'username' with the user name )

To specify both channel and user name, use something like:

http://www.nwontario.biz/RSS/channel:username (external link)

Channel is always first then username, if you get this backwards it will show no results.
If you misspell or enter in a non-exsistant channel and/or user name it will also show no results.
