What is Micro Blogging?
Micro blogging is a service/feature that allows users to post short messages on a website for others to see. A popular example of this kind of service would be Twitter or Facebook wall. What's special about our 'PA' micro blog service is that it also broadcasts the short messages to others via RSS, allowing instant notice of anything posted (see next page).
- Note:
- Add http://www.nwontario.net/RSS/all:(your user name) to your twitterfeed
this will include all your PA posts from this site to your Facebook, Hellotxt, Ping.fm, Statusnet, and/or Twitter. You are not restricted to the above sites, any other social network/web site that accepts RSS feeds can be used.
NWOntario.net site members can read/post micro blog posts online at the web site (must be logged in). NWOntario.net built this service as a community 'Public Announcement' to allow members to post relevant information, public service announcements, notices to the other members of the Northwestern Ontario Site. Ideally posts to this micro blog will be about new content that has been added to the site such as new/changed site page, blog, article, calendar event, forum topic, and/or even additions to the gallery. Public service announcements are also welcome, however please no soliciting, Shill posting
, promotional offers, and/or anything that could be considered as Spam (all post are time stamped with the user's name).
Micro Blog Channels - As this site picks up momentum, more and more posts will be happening. This possible 'flood' of information has already been planned for by the use of channels. Each area of our site has its own channel, ex: content relevant to 'Thunder Bay' would go to the 'ThunderBay' channel. Not only can the content be filtered by channel, it also can be filtered by user or both user and channel. Check out the 'RSS' section (next page) to see just how easy it is.
